Nobody really sees themselves as a victim or as playing the victim
Nobody really sees themselves as a victim or as playing the victim
I certainly didn’t anyway,
I would read about playing the victim in personal development books and I’d just skim over it thinking it wasn’t for me.
I was never really clear to me what it meant.
At the same time I would complain to my wife.
My clients don’t pay on time.
My staff don’t prepare for meetings and they end up running into time I’d planned for other things.
I had a whole bunch of reasons I didn’t have what I wanted and each reason began with THEY.
I didn’t realise I was playing the victim to justify why I didn’t have what I wanted.
And I was complicit because being the victim allowed me to avoid having an uncomfortable conversation and having to have the courage of my own conviction.
When I turned the THEYS to I’s, I had to face the truth.
I let my clients see me without paying
I accept meetings with no agenda
I looked at all the they statements that were causing frustration in my life and change them to I.
And as soon as I did I was back in control of my life.
When it’s THEY we have to change the whole world to have what we want.
When it’s I we just have to change our actions.
That doesn’t mean is easy but hard beats impossible, don’t you think?
