What I’ve learned from the CEOs and leaders I work with
Happiness is such a lofty word that defining what it is usually seems like a daunting task but we can all agree,
We want more of it and it’s hard to gather if you don’t know what it is.
So I ask my clients to put words on it and there are two words that consistently come up.
This is so valuable I just had to share it.
The 2 words appear in different ways and contexts that I have broken down into 6 areas.
The two words that come up over and over again are
FREEDOM and PRESENCE
This makes total sense to me, we want to choose what we are doing and, when we do choose we are infinitely more likely to be present in the moment.
But that’s still vague and tough to take practical steps toward
so I’ve managed to put them into 6 categories:
TIME FREEDOM
The freedom to control your own time rather than to feel control by outside forces.
LOCATION FREEDOM
The freedom to choose where you spend your time.
RELATIONSHIP FREEDOM
The freedom to be around those you wish to be around and also the freedom to be yourself around others.
PURPOSE FREEDOM
The freedom to do something that is meaningful to you.
EMOTIONAL FREEDOM
The freedom to feel how you want to feel and change that when you don’t.
FINANCIAL FREEDOM
The freedom to provide for your needs. This doesn’t necessarily mean having a lot of money. It’s possible to have very little and feel like you have everything you need. This is more about your energy around money.
When my clients experience this break down it really helps to understand happiness and be able to make practical steps to create more of it.
Coaching is only coaching if it helps to provide clarity to the degree that action can become simple and obvious.
If you want more happiness, check your freedoms and take steps to increase them.
I really hope you find this useful.
