8 Things That Stop Leaders From Getting What They Want
Nobody is taught these things. We aren’t taught how our brains work both individual and inside of tribes.
Yet it is how our brains operate that determines what we do and what we do that determines how we and our organisations run.
I’ve listed the 8 things that I see that most consistently prevent leaders from getting what they want.
1. They falsely believe that leadership is the transfer of emotion so they spend their time trying to infuse urgency, motivation, or impatience and inadvertently spread confusion, stress and resistance rather than refusing to spread anything but clarity, direction, focus, strategy and support.
2. They use critical thinking thinking based decision making using pro’s, con’s and what if’s which keeps them stuck in procrastination because they are chasing what’s BEST which is an impossible task.
3. They haven’t clearly defined their role in the organisation and so have nothing to prioritise against and therefore get constantly caught doing what’s expedient rather than what’s of most value.
4. They have no system for keeping themselves grounded and present regardless of the current climate and circumstances and so are MOST adjtated and wired when the organisation is looking for them to be most calm and centred.
5. They have no system for keeping themselves energised and well rested so that they remain in high performance mode even when there are greater demands on their time and focus.
6. They lack a reliable process for switching their mind and body from work mode to non-work mode so they find themselves medicating with sugar or alcohol, tired and wired and constantly reaching for their phone.
7. They make difficult people decisions when they arrise using feelings rather than first principles resulting in conflict, unfairness and frustration spreading throughout the company.
8. They have no system for protecting their time and allow interruption and thus expediency over importance to be the prevailing model for the whole organisation. Which spreads urgency and panic but little progress.
