It’s not helping your mental health
That not a dig at Simon Sinek.
It’s about mental health.
We are drawn to diagnosing our current state.
We seek a reason in order to feel safe in our current reality.
That’s how our brain works.
We do the same to other people too.
We stereotype in order to feel like we understand even if it hurts us, keeps us stuck or causes us anger, anxiety or upset in some way.
We want certainty even if the story leaves us attached to this reality for ever.
We reach for the most readily available diagnosis.
Often one most envogue in the self help world or common dialogue in our social circle.
Common self diagnosis:
“I have low self worth” No
“I don’t believe in myself” No
“I have low self esteem” No
“I’m an all or nothing type of person” No
“I’m a failure” No
“I don’t love myself enough” No
“I lack the will power” No
The truth is that it’s none of these things.
Our current reality is the product of cause and effect.
How we feel about our current reality is a product of the meaning our brain has attached to it.
This is very good news.
We can look at the causes and change something and change the effect.
We can look at the meanings and see if they are skilful given the life we want to experience.
So hold off on your diagnosis, there is nothing in it for you.
