We learned to be healthy and happy with little.

Tesco’s used to do a £0.97 Turkey leg. It was massive!

If you cooked it in the oven like you would a Turkey it was horrific. No amount of cooking would melt away the tendons. It was like eating cable ties.

But if you put it in the slow cooker for 8 hours with a load of veg and stock it would melt in your mouth.

We had 5 or 6 other dishes like this, Oxtails was another before people learned what to do with them and the prices tripled over night… cheers Nigella.

We hadn’t prepared for hard times ie income drop and prices rising, and were paying the price.

What we learned though was priceless.

We learned to be healthy and happy with little.

In a world that tells us that we MUST have more and constantly consume to be happy that’s pretty cool. In fact no, it’s more than that, it’s power.

Imagine having less than you have right now, think 20-40% less AND being happier.

Think about how much power that would give you. You could save more protecting your future. You could stop using things like chocolate or alcohol and Netflix as medication (note I’m not saying all consumption is medication, but you know when it is right?)

You can take more risks and take advantage of more opportunities because you no longer fear the worst. You know the worst, and you loved it.

And you are no longer chasing something you don’t have. You can now do what feels purposeful to you.

I guess seeing current petrol, food, fuel prices made me think of this. Less can mean more. Don’t let it take your happiness, use the world to help you decide who you really are.
