“The team that needs motivation isn’t a team”

“The team that needs motivation isn’t a team”

When you think about it, what motivation really means is,

Getting them to do something they don’t want to do.

It’s pushing someone up hill or pushing them against resistance.

What that means is,

🔨 They don’t own what they are doing.

👩‍🎓 They aren’t connected with the consequences of not doing (not in a punishment sort of way :))

📖 They don’t believe in what they are doing.

⛪️ They don’t trust the method will get them the desired result

🤷🏼‍♂️ They don’t understand what is required.

😞 They lack clarity around what steps to and not to take, in what order and what feedback they’ll notice if they’re on the right or wrong path.

Pushing someone against resistance is exhausting, it eventually breaks both pusher and resistor.

The need for motivation is a clear indicator that one of the above is missing.

Do you agree or disagree?
