Addictive personality isn’t the right word but it’s the closest one I can find and I have it

Addictive personality isn’t the right word but it’s the closest one I can find and I have it

I’ve known it since I was 11

My friends would come over for dinner and they’d finish eating and I’d just keep on going.

We’d buy sweets and I’d just keep on eating.

As I got older I was the same with cigarettes, alcohol and partying…

It sounds like a slippery slope and of course, it was…

I sound like an addict, a kid with a problem destined to become an adult with bigger ones.

But I could tell a story of the same kid looking through the same lens that shows a different future.

When I was 11 I noticed that when all the other kids stopped practising football, table tennis, chest, I would still be there, hours after they’d gone.

We go running but I’d keep going after…

I started a car washing business at 13, always me and one or two others but always me.

What I’ve learned is that my brain loves dopamine and when it finds a reward behaviour it becomes addicted

I can’t completely control this,

But I can direct it

I’m not an addict

I’m relentless in the pursuit of what I want, I just have to be careful as something I can disappear off in the wrong direction

I’m not alone in this, everyone has talents and often those talents are hidden beneath fictional stories handed to us by others.
