Kill the old habit to build the new

An idea worth exploring

Kill the old habit to build the new

New year, new you. It’s all about building new habits to produce new results.

What we tend to miss is that a habit already exists. One wired into the brain as the default behaviour in a given environment.

The only reason you want a new habit

is because you’ve decided the old one creates too much harm in the medium to long term.

That habit was formed to meet a survival need. Which is why the brain resists removing it.

If you can learn what need it is meeting,

and remove that need or meet it another way, the brain will willingly relinquish the behaviour.

In short:

Old habits don’t disappear.

They have to be made unnecessary.

A concept worth thinking about

All transformation is an identity-level process.

I don’t exercise because I am disciplined. I don’t exercise because I can will myself to do it. I exercise because it’s part of who I am.

You can’t force yourself to be who you are not. But you can explore who you already are.

In identifying beliefs and identities that no longer fit, the habits you desire begin to feel more natural.

Often the starting point is simple:

map where you are already that person, then build methodically from there.

Questions worth asking

Where am I already a person

who looks after their health?

What would it take to plus one?

Each of these ideas asks something different of you. To look deeper.

Assume less. See more.

If you had to choose just one to explore more deeply this week, which would it be?.
