“Be greedy when people are fearful and fearful when people are greedy”
“Be greedy when people are fearful and fearful when people are greedy”
I think it was Warren Buffet who said that at the start of the last recession in 2008.
There is a lot of buzz around other one on it’s way if it’s not already here.
This time won’t be like the last in every way but it will in one very important way.
Some will be overwhelmed and moved into paralysis by all the fear porn. In fact that’s what most leaders will do.
Some leaders with greater clarity will see through all the BS get calm and centred in themselves and open themselves up for opportunity.
In fact I’m already seeing these groups form as many, buying into the narrative, are talking of tough years ahead, scaling back, batting down the hatches, reducing marketing spend.
On the other side I’m seeing my clients and many skilful leaders preparing for action, agility and opportunity.
They are reaching out to people in their world and making sure they are ok.
They are dialling in their health and mental focus.
They are strengthening their connections and relationships to keep a breast of what’s actually happening in the world rather than the media hype around it.
They are aligning their teams around what they believe will be important going forward.
They are building even stronger processes inside their businesses and passing on even more responsibility to free up time to think and focus.
They are bringing in experts (yes like me) to help their teams upgrade their own mental fitness and focus.
Over half of the fortune were created during economic downturn. They were too busy taking action and focusing on reality and operating within it no matter how it presented.
Those that thrive will be those who take control of their brains and create calm, confidence and clarity now.
That’s not to say that it’s all cup cakes and rainbows or that failures won’t happen but during recession the landscape changes.
Those who are most calm, present and focused will be better placed to not only ride these changes but to see and take advantage of opportunity.
