I stopped drinking alcohol at the end of 2019

I stopped drinking alcohol at the end of 2019.

I had decided that it was holding me back from achieving the things that I want to.

*Alcohol stays in the system for 72 hours after consumption and impairs cognitive function for that whole period.

What that means is that if I drink twice a week I am hungover 100% percent of the time.

* that’s what hangover means.

I have a friend that has suffered PTSD for years and it significantly impacts his sleep 😴 a couple of glasses of red wine is the difference between him getting 4 hours of sleep or nothing at all some nights.

I tell you this because it’s rare today for someone to say what they are doing for their own health, growth, business, learning whatever, and for us to not make it about ourselves.

It’s easy to get offended, to make their action a judgement on us.

We then tear them down and ironically we hurt ourselves in the process.

We wouldn’t feel the need to tear it down if we didn’t admire them in some way.

Perhaps not the behaviour but the commitment it takes to do something outside of the norm.

Of course to write this I have to have seen it in myself. If we crucify what we aspire to then we don’t have to change anything.

Of course if we make all those who are different the enemy we make ourselves perfect and if we are perfect then THIS really is as good as it gets.

Which is fine if you’re living in bliss. If not though, look at those you most resent and ask what it is you admire because they are the same thing. That worked really well for me.

I stopped alcohol or have for now for me, not because I think everyone should.

I’m just fascinated by these quirks us humans have.

Addition, in 2021 and 2002 I had a drink about 5 times. Christmas Day, New Years Eve an evening with some friends.
