I see this play out in men and leaders in particular all the time.

Deferring relationships until stability or success is achieved.

Focusing on the mission at the expense of relationships.

It’s evolutionary and it makes total sense. But today we don’t just defer for a fight or for a hunt it chronic ongoing stress while building the habit of putting others aside.

We have to find ways to work against this evolutionary tendency first by acknowledging that we are wired to function this way. We’re unlikely to lose the hardwired response to stress.

We have to rewire the way we see the world. We have to lose our stress finding clarity, creating better processes for operating our own brains as well as operating in the world.

The drive to build a business is fantastic but health, family and relationships are now. They can’t be deferred without damage.
