Using GCSE PE to my advantage as an adult

I did GCSE PE at school. I think it was the first ever year it was available as a subject

It was good fun and at least one of its intensions was to teach us to teach people to look after their health.

I went on to do Sports Science at College for 2 years.

From there I went on to do a 3 year degree in Sports Conditioning, coaching, and rehabilitation.

7 years of education a good portion of which dedicated to understand humans mentally and physically.

And NOT ONCE did we cover this simple fact.

Exercise is involuntary

In the same way as eating, exercise is something that naturally happens.

When you think about it it’s pretty undeniable.

All mammals do it
All children do it

If mammals stops it’s the first indicator that they’re sick.

Physically sick (depressed or anxious included)

We were never taught it had anything to do with laziness or gluttony or anything which is something I guess. Although this is how much of the industry has filled in the blank.

It was just a subject never covered which is odd.

Why don’t people exercise should have been a primary subject shouldn’t it?

What was covered was the importance of exercise for muscle strength, bone density, maintaining low body fat which points to the idea of supporting the future us.

We are all exercisers in the imagined future.

Actually it looks WAY more pressing thought, daily waste removal through the lymphatic system, proper nutrient delivery in the blood and good blood flow in general as well as regulating emotion and hormones to make things like sleep, appetite and communication work well.

It seems the absence of exercise could be one of the biggest issues in the world.

So why the hell don’t we move as we evolved to?

Here is my little look.

We made exercise hierarchical and so those at the top got a nice serotonin reward and those at the bottom didn’t.

Therefore some developed love and some hate (fear) VERY early on

We removed the reward of the chase from all but the winners so dopamine was taken away from all but the winners.

More love and hate.

We defined play as the opposite of work so those who wanted to succeed sacrificed it for more work. Makes sense really. Unfortunately all the evidence shows that play is in fact the opposite of depression, sickness and mental instability.

So we have an industry that largely has no idea what the problem actually is and a society turning to them for help.

Funny hey,

I would suggest if you are a non-exerciser it would help to find a way to win (compete against you yesterday)

A way to reward yourself (we like rewards)

Start noticing how much better the day you do it is.

And start small.

That’s all for now 🙂
