Attention Intention Repetition

Attention Intention Repetition

I was present this morning with the question of whether grown ups can really change “deep down” or will they always revert to old habits over time.

When we say DEEP DOWN we mean transformation. The old has gone and new responses to environmental stimulus have been formed.

This happens for kids all the time. Their brains constantly transform in response to what they are paying attention to.

This is the basis of neuroplasticity and for kids it’s automatic.

As adults we require 3 things.

Attention - deliberate focus
Intention - what and why
Repetition - deliberate practise

Can a grown up really change deep down?

Yes, but 2 transformations are required.

The first is to doubt their current approach.

This is why most don’t change until they are met with a clear demonstration of their unskillful choices eg divorce, illness, losing a job, company failure. (Not that these are always a demonstration of unskillful choice but they are major life events).

We can however decide at any time that we aren’t content with the way things are or that we would like to experience the grandest vision of who we could be.

The second comes when we give AIR something new to become that grandest vision. Once AIR is applied the old has gone.
