Why I Love Working With Start Up Founders
Why I Love Working With Start Up Founders
Walk into any established company and into the C level and you will usually find an appointed team.
A team of individuals who have worked up through the ranks, been shown the ropes, trained, mentored, guided and supported.
They have demonstrated a level of competence and progressed upwards to a point where they find themselves at the top of an organisation through career progression.
Now a founders is something different.
A founder has nominated themselves as competent and ready for the position, most often without a lot of relevant experience behind them.
It’s often thought that it’s confidence and intelligence that’s behind this but that’s not it. I’m not saying those aren’t useful ingredients, they are, but they aren’t the difference that makes the difference.
The two most important skills that the BEST start up founder I know poses are COURAGE and HUMILITY.
Think about it,
In order to be successful, start up founders have to reach a level of knowledge, skill and consistency within 2-5 years that most normal company leaders perhaps took 4 or 5 times that to acquire.
And that requires both the courage and the humility to repeated acknowledge and face your own IGNORANCE (things you don’t know) INCOMPETENCE (skills you don’t yet have) and INCONSISTENCY over and over again.
No time for consolidation or liking wounds.
To me these are the traits that we all need to master in order to be better people, partners, parents, friends, leaders and to consistently grow.
I love working with start up founders because in order to succeed without burnout, stress, poor health and relationship break down you have no choice but to live life with courage and humility.
If you are a start up founder and you’re ready to even more effectively deploy courage and humility I have 7 spaces remaining on my REWIRE program, PM to discuss
