“How’s business Ed, are you busy?”

I’ll be honest, I don’t yet have a good answer for that question and I really should because I’m asked it on a daily basis.

It’s an odd question if it’s the actually question isn’t it?

Are you asking me if I have an excessive amount to do, perhaps more to do than I have time available?

That’s a strangely specific greeting isn’t it?

Are you asking me if I’m overwhelmed because you are?

Or are you asking what I think you’re asking, if I am experiencing some level of success with my business?

And if that is the question and you have somehow made success mean busy then the likelihood is that you ARE in fact overwhelmed.

That’s what I hear now when people ask me if I’m busy.

They are telling me they are overwhelmed or bored, either way they are stressed by their current reality.

Our fears live on the tip of our tongue.

I used to use it myself, when people asked, “how’s business?” I’d respond with BUSY and I was but very little of it was skilful given to life I wanted to experience.

Am I busy?

No, but that’s really not what I want from my life either.

How about you, are you busy?
