Fitting in - is it worth it?
Fitting in…
A client of mine values the misfits, the round pegs.
They want people who are quirky, odd, weird, different.
It’s one of their company values.
You might question whether that’s important I did initially.
Does a company really need to actively seek the odd balls?
Then I started to ask, what the odd are that the normal or average person even exists?
What is the likelihood that with all the choices of clothes, hair, food, fun, fitness, music, art, values, beliefs, ambitions, desires, interests and all the other forms of self expression…
And all of the different influences like home, school, clubs, friends, enemies, family, parents, holidays, money, towns, cities, countries…
That someone being authentically who they are doesn’t show up in the world as a misfit, weirdo, odd ball but rather a carbon copy or a mean average of MOST people?
I would have to argue that the likelihood is ZERO.
And that in fact by asking for the weirdos they are in fact asking for the courageous.
