You are not what you eat
King Fredrick II Roman Emperor in the 1300's was a bit of a tosser/ amateur scientist.
Intrigued by the human body more so than he was concerned with human rights he decided to conduct an experiment.
He took two equally sized men from one of his prisons.
He then served them a giant banquet, the best meal either man had ever eaten.
Maybe Fredy is not so bad...
After they had eaten he sent one man out for a 6 hour hunt with spears and bow and arrow.
Fun I'm sure but also adrenaline inducing and hard physical work.
The other man was treated to 6 hours of relaxation. I'm sure post relaxing bath and massage he drifted off to a beautiful restful sleep in a 4 post bed.
6 hours later the 2 happy men were bought back together before the king.
... and disembowelled.
See,
Told you,
Tosser.
So, you'd think our exercising guy had been burning through the Food and our sleeper had a belly full of posh nosh.
That's the conventional wisdom right?
Nope.
The complete reverse was true.
Our exerciser had a bowel full of food, our sleeper was empty.
You see, under stress ie work, exercises, being busy.
Our body is focusing on survival, attention on the moment, and diverting blood away from the digestive system.
This is the secret behind the French paradox. Meals are to be consumed and digested while we are relaxed.
We are what eat
But more so
Who we are when we eat
That was viking nutrition lesson 1
Eat most of your food when you can digest it.
