It was my wife Christina's birthday yesterday
In the pictures you can see Danish flags,
The Danish put them all over the house for birthdays and even Christmas.
They dance around the Christmas tree singing and holding hands at Christmas.
You opt out of the church rather than in.
You opt out of being a blood donor rather than in.
Three weeks ago a child was taken from a nursery.
The kidnapper was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
The next day the lead paper in Denmark led with a headline with words to the effect of,
We won't turn our schools into prisons because of a minority.
It then went on to break down the new measures that had been taken at that particular school.
But I stand by what I said the other day.
The Danes aren't different.
It is everyone's first nature to trust.
To assume that people are basically good.
That people want to take part.
That people want to contribute to society.
That people love first and only fear when it's proven prudent to do so.
I won't go down any conspiracy theory route here but;
Do you think the uk media would have more likely used fear to sell more papers and sell more product.
Do you think our governments constant inability to communicate with truth but instead communicate with fear and confusion is a mistake or it's just what serves them best?
I don't really have the answers, these are just observations of how the uk and Denmark appear different.
The result maybe the same I don't know and I've not been here long enough to form an opinion but if nothing else I hope this provokes some thought.
Is it really natural for humans to constantly de-humanise everyone who has a different income, race, opinion?
Maybe to a degree it is, but the U.K. government and media certainly seem to put paraffin to the flame where the Danish seem to put water to it.
Just a thought.
