15 Principles of Person Growth I Have Learned During My 15 Years of Working With Leaders

⭕️ We know with much more clarity what is bad than what is good. Define what bad looks like and you’ll at least have clarity around how (and who) you don’t want to be.

⭕️ You will never fully convince someone they are wrong — only reality can. Support them in exposing their reality.

⭕️ The place you most need to go is hidden where you least want to look. Get a coach, board, or mentor and give them freedom to challenge you.

⭕️ There is no evolution without skin in the game. Evolution is often dependent upon facing your fears.

⭕️ Systems get smarter by elimination. What are you wasting time on?

⭕️ Systems designed by those who fear judgement tend to grow in complexity before they finally collapse. When you are rewarded for perception, not results, you need to show sophistication.

⭕️ If you do not take risks for your opinion you have nothing. If you aren’t willing to struggle or fail for what you believe, then it’s just a story you’re telling to make yourself feel better.

⭕️ Those who cut corners in their work, even in the name of efficiency, end up hating it.

⭕️ If you can’t put your soul into it, then leave it to someone else.

⭕️ Don’t take the advice of people who aren’t actively applying it in their life.

⭕️ Learning is rooted in repetition, so reading the same book twice is more effective than reading two different ones once.

⭕️ Eat what you feed others. This holds true whether it’s food for your kids or how you support others to produce their best.

⭕️ Motivation is a product of prediction and response. So is mastery. That means time spent defining and refining process is time spent creating mastery.

⭕️ Mastery is when you become effective rather than efficient. Effective people create the most output from the least input.

⭕️ If you fail to define the truth of your current reality and consistently speak and operate from it, you will find yourself telling yourself and others how you wish it was — as if it were truth — and even acting as if it were true. All the while you will create chaos around you and deny responsibility for it. “It’s them,” you’ll say.

Whether it’s business, marketing, relationships, leadership, health, or mental health, it all comes back to YOU — working with you, better understanding you, and operating you.
